Alopecia X in Pomeranian

Alopecia X has been described in several breeds including Pomeranians, Keeshonden, Alaskan Malamutes, Chow Chows, and Miniature Poodles. Affected animals suffer from hair loss, which usually starts at the neck and body of the animal, whereas the head and front legs are typically spared. Additionally, darkening of the affected skin areas may also be observed. Symptoms typically show up between 1-5 years of age. We would like to investigate the genetic causes of alopecia X. For our research we need DNA samples from affected dogs as well as healthy controls. If you would like to participate in our research project, please follow the instructions shown below.
