Ichthyoses comprise a large, heterogeneous group of inherited cornification disorders that are characterized by generalized scaly and hyperkeratotic skin. Based on the presence or absence of light microscopic findings of vacuoles and lysis of keratinocytes, ichthyoses can be divided into epidermolytic and non-epidermolytic. Our group has described several breed-specific types of ichthyoses in dogs using precision medicine tools for investigating genodermatoses, which enabled us to identify causative genetic variants in German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Shar Pei, Chihuahua, and Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
