Maxillary prognathism is a relatively common misalignment of the jaws. It predominantly affects dolicephalic dog breeds (dogs with long noses). In maxillary prognathism the upper jaw is too long in relation to a normal lower jaw. Preliminary evidence suggests the occurrence of a heritable form of maxillary prognathism in Australian Cattle Dogs, possibly with a monogenic mode of inheritance. We would like to investigate the genetics of maxillary prognathism in Australian Cattle Dogs and develop a genetic test for this trait. For the research we need EDTA blood samples from Australian Cattle Dogs. We therefore ask breeders and owners to donate samples for our research.
