Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) is a group of hereditary diseases involving the degeneration of the retina and ultimately leading to blindness in affected dogs. Many genetically different forms of PRA exist. In Saarloos Wolfdogs, at least one new form of PRA may occur, for which there is currently no genetic tests available. In collaboration with Saarloos Wolfdog International and various private veterinary ophthalmologists, we would like to investigate the genetic causes of this form of PRA and develop a genetic test. For the research project we need EDTA blood samples and eye examination certificates of Saarloos Wolfdogs. We therefore ask owners, breeders, and veterinarians for their help and the donation of samples.
