Dominant white / White markings / Depigmentation in Horses

Freiberger mit minimalen und extremen weissen Abzeichen
Franches Montagnes Horses with minimal and extreme white markings

Together with the National Stud in Avenches and the Bern University of Applied Sciences we investigate molecular genetic mechanisms, which lead to various depigmentation phenotypes in the horse. Depigmentation is caused by the absence of melanocytes and leads to white patches in the skin and coat. We investigate the following phenotypes: Dominant white (W), Splashed white (SW), Roan (RN), Tobiano (To) and the quantitative trait "White markings".
